Burning permanently removes a card. Read what the specific action gives you, then weigh that immediate benefit against losing the card’s future points and effects.

What burning costs
The official Demo description identifies permanent card burning as a core mechanic. It is not simply placing a card on the pentagram or saving it for another turn.
Thinky Games’ Demo hands-on describes card abilities that thin the deck. Removing an unwanted card can improve the remaining mix, but removing a useful card also removes its future contribution.
Read the effect that causes the burn. There is no safe universal rule that every burned card awards the same benefit. Some effects target a particular card.
Burning to change your options
VGTimes’ September preview-build hands-on describes drawing a new card at the cost of burning a card in hand. This is a preview report: check the draw action and its cost in your Demo before using it.
If your version presents this exchange, ask whether another draw can solve the current problem without sacrificing something later rituals need. A new draw is an option, not a guaranteed improvement.
Keep-or-burn checklist
- Protect a working combination. Ask which bonuses stop working if you remove its neighbor or modifier.
- Compare effects, not just points. A small card can enable a valuable conditional bonus.
- Identify the benefit. A draw and a triggered effect are different decisions. Follow the actual text.
- Think ahead. A card that adds little to this board may still matter later.
These are decision prompts, not a tested best deck, tier list or Hard Mode solution.
Burning is not the reserve
Burning changes your available cards. A developer-marked community answer describes the Sanity reserve covering missing blood points at turn end, not supplying missing cards. Read the reserve explanation for that distinction. Check your placement before burning a card to fix a low score.
